Well done to Charleville Scouts who won the scouting competition ‘The Shield’ recently.
On the May bank holiday weekend, Scout troops from all over Cork got together in Mount Melleray, Co Waterford, and Charleville came out as Shield winners for the first time since 1999. Great credit is due to the young men and women involved in the competition and also to the leaders who have helped these young people achieve this wonderful accolade.
Charleville have now qualified for the National competition ‘The Phoenix’. The Phoenix Challenge is a national Scout craft competition that takes place at the end of August each year. It is the largest annual gathering of Scouts in Ireland with up to sixty Patrols of eight Scouts from all around the country participating. The major sections of the event include the campcraft competition, team and skill challenges, special projects and cooking. As all roads lead to Cavan later this summer, I have no doubt that everyone involved will do the Charleville area proud.
