According to Kissmetrics this is a very useful tool that allows you to track what’s trending in your social media circles by focusing on your specific industry. The way it works is to use the power of your audience to know what content and brands are trending with them.

This tool is dealing more in relation to your websites search engine optimisation. It analyses your backlinks. You can see who is linking back to your competitor’s website so you can follow your rival’s link-building strategies. It can tell you, who is ranking to their website in relation to PageRank, the authority of the back-link and anchor text.

These are just a few useful tools that can help you when wondering what your competition is doing.

But there are other ways you can keep an eye on them for example in Facebook

You can use the Facebook Insights tool to watch other Facebook pages so you can compare their activity, engagement, audience growth and see what’s working for them. By having all of this information, you can use this information for your own updates.

Key Questions to Consider:

What are they posting about? E.g. are they all company news or maybe useful information related to that industry. Maybe it’s a mixture of infographics, links, videos etc. See what is working for them

How many followers do they have?

How often are they posting?

Do they run competitions regularly or polls?

What hashtags do they use?

How on brand are there photos? Is it all about their product/service or is there a mixture of lifestyle-orientated strategy?

Are they tagging other accounts in their posts?

Obviously doing a competitor analysis is going to take a considerable amount of time but it will give you a greater insight into what your customers engage with more and it can also give you an inspiration for your own social content.
